BOOK STUDY

Book Study: Proof of Heaven

Starting on Wednesday, February 24th, we are starting a five-week book study of the book, Proof of Heaven, by Eben Alexander, M.D.
As a neurosurgeon schooled in some of the most elite institutions of the American scientific community, Dr. Eben Alexander considered himself an "unbeliever" - one who did not believe in God, Heaven or an afterlife. He was confident that the brain was the ultimate source of consciousness and all reports of experiences in the "spiritual realm" were unsupportable from a scientific perspective. Everything changed, though, on November 10, 2008, when a splitting headache landed him in an emergency room and ultimately a seven-day coma. In Proof of Heaven, Dr. Alexander recounts the story of those seven days and the spiritually transforming experience that occurred during them. When he awakened from his coma, his old certainties about the nonexistence of the afterlife were gone.

You can purchase the book at your favorite bookseller or at Amazon:

We will cover the introduction - The Rule of Benedict, and focus on tool #3 Mary or Martha, found on page 9 in the book or on the last page on the attachment found here: St. Benedict's Toolbox, Class 1

The book study is to help us live into our faith in our daily lives, as Benedict taught during his lifetime. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, you are welcome here.

Class 1

Class 2

Tomorrow's class on St. Benedict's Tool Box is on chapter 2 - Lectio Divina. Don't let the name scare you off; it is a simple and easy way to read Scripture. The author, Jane Tomaine, will walk us through how to read Scripture in this particular way. She also explains what Lectio Divina means so that it doesn't seem so strange. The "tool" in the toolbox that we will cover in class is on page 40 - a sample prayer using lectio divina. Looking forward to learning and participating with you on Tuesday at 10 am, Eastern, through Zoom, and available anytime on YouTube.
