FEATURED ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Our featured artist for April is Frances Powers.
Frances Powers is a Sarasota artist with a BFA and an MFA in painting and filmmaking and her work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the US. Ms. Powers was one of the original founding members of HERA Co-operative Art gallery in Rhode Island and has taught drawing, painting and photography.
Her work has always encompassed organic forms derived from nature. Living in Florida, with an abundance of flora and fauna is inspirational for her work. She also spent some time in Alaska and was very much influenced by the Alaskan landscape. The work is mixed media. She usually begins with a photograph (or a combination of photographs) that she has taken, then completely re-works the image on the computer, adding, subtracting and re-arranging elements, creating a digital “painting.” She then prints it out and using colored pencils, completes the work.
